30/10/07 - 31/10/07 PJ Guesthouse 150B
Booked what we thought was a ferry then bus to Trang from Ko Lanta, but it ended up being a minivan the whole way there, wich actually turned out really good as we got the carferry across to the other island, which isn't a tourist destination, and got to see a bit of that too before taking another car ferry to the mainland.
The van was around an hour late picking us up as it got a flat tyre, but we just sat in the sun waiting... at one point paranoid that we were missing the only ferry! The driver seemed to be having a bad day (although the mean and moody suited him) and it got even worse when he got his second flat tyre on the mainland about an hour from Trang... unfortunately the spare had already been used! An hour later we were back on the road... luckily as the driver and another passenger were nice to look at the time had flown by... and when we arrived in Trang a nice guy took us straight to his guesthouse where we stayed. The guesthouse was pretty basic and un-glamourous with concrete floors, shared bathrooms and spooky corridors... but the couple who ran it were lovely and there was a bed so it suited us just fine.
For somewhere that is usually just a stopover on the way somewhere else Trang was really nice... and the people we met were friendly. The place we went for food on the night was really nice and the guy who took our order also made our food... which was really good... mmmm! We also visited the night market, day market and the clocktower... which looked very 80's. But we only spent one night here as we're eager to see Malaysia and Singapore.
The guy from our guesthouse took us to the bus station in his super cute tuk-tuk... the ones here are very different to the others we've seen... very retro! and we took a local bus to Hat Yai as it was around half the price of the bus tickets sold in the travel agents.
