FINALLY...SOMEWHERE GOOD!!!
25/10/07 - 26/10/07 Cha Guesthouse 250B
Our journey to Krabi, in an air con minibus, was the usual final destination/close death experience we seem to have everywhere, much of it in the rain... no change there! We arrived at the bus station, which is around 5km from the town mid-afternoon and took a tuk-tuk to the main street, where we really easily found a guesthouse opposite the post office run by a really nice and helpful guy who told us all the best places to go.
When the boom boom began in the next room (she was definitely faking!) we decided to check out the town then headed to an eatery the guy had recommended where we had pad thai... mmmm! The place was full of locals (which is always a good sign) and you can see straight into the kitchen and watch them cook your food. Plus the beer was cheap which is always a bonus.
After hunting down some pancakes from the riverside food stalls we headed to a reggae bar we had passed earlier in the night and met Louis, Bob and the dog. Turned out that Louis used to live in P a i and knew all the people we hd met there which was pretty cool... apparently he had to leave there due to a drugs conviction and fighting though... eek! They offered to take us to another bar Deer had recommended in their car, but as my mum told me never to talk to strangers (even if they have a dog) and because we'd sat with them while they drank shots... we declined.
We headed back to guesthouse pretty early, but when we heard some decent music coming from a building behing we asked the helpful guy if it was from a bar and took directions on how to get there. The bar was pretty cool and very chilled out which was good and I got chatting to another guy called Louis who Hazel had played pool with and he told me about what was good to do in the area, hot springs and a temple over 1000 steps up into a mountain. Unfortunately we'd already decided to move onto the islands the next morning, but these are definitely things I would want to heck out if I went back again.
