SUNNY SIHANOUKVILLE
19/09/07 - 22/09/07 Mick & Craig's - Intrepid Tour
Was really looking forward to this part of the trip... as we were finally going to my favourite place... THE SEASIDE!!! Unfortunately... it rained!!!
Went out on the first night to the restaurant on the corner of the three lions roundabout... wish I'd gotten the name of it as I had the most amazing dish of grilled barracuda (a fresh fish caught locally... which even Mel liked despite not being a fish eater!) with mashed potato... yum! Pair this with 50 cent Anchor beers and we were laughing. The Chicken Amok also comes seriously recommended by Mel for it's extra spice. we got a peek at Con's bro who worked there and later on we met the Cambodian MR T!
WHO WEARS SHORT SHORT'S?
We visited the local market, which wasn't that great and then the Starfish Bakery... which did awesome chocolate brownies (another traditional Cambodian dish...or not!!!).
As everyone's clothes were in the laundry a certain member of the group chose to wear his swimming "short shorts" (they know who they are!)... luckily JohnX didn't make an appearance!
Due to the weather the rest of our time was spent playing pool and cards, drinking beer and in Hazel's case seeing what effects the application of eyeliner might have!
Con borrowed Mr T's car to take us on a tour of Sihanoukville, which looks as though it would be beautiful in the sun... but probably full of tourists in the dry season... hell! If the weather had been better we could have taken a boat trip with a BBQ lunch, which sounded great and I think there was also a naional park which again would have been pretty nice in good weather
Mr T (I pity the fool!) owns/runs the great restaurant by the 3 lions roundabout and as he had been one of our pool-playing buddies, for our last night he invited us to a re-launch of the restaurant next door to his, which meant free food and beer... so naturally we accepted!!!
Had a really great night at the restaurant re-launch... but Mel was ill so couldn't have any of the free beer... she was gutted and kept trying to sneak some when no-one was looking... bad Mel. Mr T tried to teach us all some Cambodian moves on the dancefloor, but as I'm the worlds worst mover and Mel said I looked like I was trying to hula dance I made a hasty exit! Awesome night... and luckily a night of free beer before a 7am bus journey didn't turn out too bad at all!
