On Sunday we went to Caversham Wildlife Park to meet some Koalas and Kangaroos. The park had loads more than I expected, including loads of pretty birds and parrots, alligators (which were pretty tricky to spot), a wallaby on display for pictures (with all its glory on show too the poor thing), dingos and got to hold a python. The also had a massive eagle which we saw being fed and watched walking around with its funny creeping walk. They had loads of kangaroos which, unlike the ones at the graveyard, you could get right next to and stroke. They were quite dazed though which I thought was a bit sad. Later we got to see some Koalas up closer too which were fascinating. They have pretty angry faces as if they're fed up and ready to lash out so it was a bit sketchy. You had to rotate around stroking the Koalas as they have a short amount of patience and can get a bit feisty if they're bothered for too long. Fair enough.
The next day we decided to head into the city to have a proper look around as we'd only really seen it from a distance. The city in Perth is pretty compact so it didn't take too long, but there are some impressive buildings such as the bell tower and the post office. It was also nice to see the Christmas decs in the sunshine, which made a welcome change from the grey skied scene in England! After a bit of shopping and wandering we got the ferry back over the river and headed to Freemantle. We were expecting something really scenic, but we only found a couple of bars near the river/harbour which was pretty and nice for a drink but we were glad we didn't go to spend a day there!
As well as visiting other beaches we also drove down to Busselton one day. It was about a two hour drive from Perth, so a bit of a trek. It was really scenic down there though. They have a huge jetty which is 2k long - the longest in Aus or something. We had a stroll down in peering in the ocean (we could do with the exercise) which was crystal clear and really beautiful. We were in the sea for a bit, which again was freezing cold, but our swim was cut short as we were surrounded by jellyfish.
One night Lisa also took us for dessert pizza which was amazing. We met Amber at Hillarie's boat harbour and managed to share one between the four of us as it was so rich and covered in chocolate/brownie/sauce. So good though!
