Granada is a lovely pretty colonial town on the shore of the massive Lago de Nicaragua.
Its set out like a grid system again, with buildings all painted different colours, lots of pretty churches and squares with shady trees... what a lovely place!
However it is December - holy fiesta virgin mary month. This means that there are loads of improvised explosive devices being set off at random in the street which has made me jump so many times. They also have marching bands which parade the streets with brass section, 20-30 people with drums, a statue of the virgin mary mounted on the back of a truck, and more people with bombs.
This would be very fun to watch and follow, but for some reason the tradition dictates that the marching bands go through town at 5am through 7am. This is insane, very noisy. everyone thinks its normal and just shrugs.
