I set out from Dublin at 6am last Thursday with 24 hours of travel ahead of me. I had been looking forward to the trip for ages so the long long travelling ahead didn't phase me. However that was until i realised that when we would arrive in Lima at 4:30 am we wouldn't be able to check into our room till one pm! Suffice to say Friday was tough day. Still got to head out and check out some of the city while we were waitig for the room.
Oh, we arranged the hostel to collect us from the airport and in short Lima drivers are nuts! Bombing down the roads and literally don't stop for anything/anyone. I think that person got back up from the ground...
It's the middle of winter here so it's permenantely overcast but still like 15 degrees so it's still warm enough to wear shorts. Lima is a great city and the locals are nice(even though I was getting picked on by a group of school kids shouting 'hola gringo' at me). There are some ancient ruins in the city that we took a trip to (Huaca Pucllana) which was pretty cool to see. Like any other capital in the world it also has he usual food chains and shops. Still ordering a cortado is way more fun than ordering regular americano
We wandered into the city to take a look at centro historico and as it was Sunday there was obviously a fiesta happening. People dressed in traditional clothes dancing in circles to random drum beats. I think I'm going to be seeing a lot if these in the coming months. They seemed to having the lol's though.
Even though I had no Spainish coming over here I have picked up a good bit since arriving. Not many Lima folk speak english so you don't have a choice really but it's great fun learning a new language, nodding politely and thowing in an occassional 'si' and 'bueno' as they talk to you..
The hostel here has a bar so generally hang out there and they have random theme nights which are good craic. It's tough to leave he cheap booze and head to a club but we managed to head out one of the nights-albeit it took us an hour and a half and several taxis to actualy find a club that was open. Damn religious Sundays...
We are heading away from Lima today up north to Trujillo (making our way to mancora) for some beach and surf time so that should be sweet as.
Also I was cutting my hair the last day and the blade fell off leaving a lovely patch right in back of my head. I had no choice but to shave my whole head then but once it starts to tan it should be fine. Least you can't see the grey hair now though.
Until the the next time peeps..
