Koh phi phi
So I arrive in phi phi - first impression is wow! Absolutely stunning! I then get to the hostel, the first one I've stayed in and it's a 16 bed mixed dorm, and there is only about a foot distance between each bed, it's tight to say the least! But seems fine.....
The first day was just working out where everything is and I meet Lucy who's alos travelling on her own so we head out in the evening for dinner and to the Stones Bar for the fire show. Stones bar was great and the fire show very entertaining ( and dangerous) after the guys from the bar have finished their show, it's time to get everyone that's really drunk to jump the fire skipping rope and then fire limbo. I have to say I can see the appeal after a few beers, but I'm glad I saw the injuries before I saw the show. It totally put me off, mind you not sure I would have been brave enough anyway. There were lots of very burnt feet and legs the next day!
The next day I had a little bit of a hangover so just sat on the beach all day and in the evening headed to Carlitos for some live music and another fire show (no skipping ropes this time though).
The day after we headed off on a boat trip for some snorkelling, we headed off to shark rock, bamboo island, a couple of others but I can't remember the names, then maya beach where the beach was filmed, then to the Viking caves and then we drop anchor to watch the sunset.
Bamboo island was paradise it was just a shame that there were soooooo many people, the sea the most turquoise I've ever seen and the sand soft and white. Could've stayed there all day! After lunch we set off round phi phi the scenery and rock formation is amazing, some parts reminded me of halong bay in a way.
The snorkelling was good fun too, I saw some lovely fish some the same as when I went diving, very brightly coloured and some quite big. Whilst watching the sunset a couple of the group decided they would jump into the 50m deep water, I thought sod that! Apparently it was pitch black underwater and one of them got tangled up in a massive jellyfish and had nasty stings all over her legs. So glad I was such a wimp and didn't want to go in.
And then there was monkey island...... I'm not a massive fan of monkeys I have to confess....I've already seen people get bitten. We get off the boat having been warned by a massive sign about the monkeys and how you shouldn't feed them, but no someone decides it would be sensible to take a tube of Pringles and was chased and then bitten. I got straight back on the boat and watched from there. Don't really want to be needing a rabies jab! Weirdly the people that were bitten didn't seem too bothered about it!
So having survived monkey island we go to maya beach ....... Wow wow wow wow!
So so beautiful, but again overrun with people, can't say I'm suprised through, it's probably prettiest bit of phi phi I've seen. The cliffs that surround the beach are covered in lush greenery, simply gorgeous! Having watched another great sunset we head back.
In the morning I set out early to scale the view point, it's already very very hot at 8am, but I've been assured that the view is worth it. And they weren't wrong!
Such a fantastic view as you can see in the photo that shows the beaches on both sides. Well worth the sweat and effort to get up there. In the afternoon I spent the afternoon planning the Malaysia and Singapore leg of the trip, can't believe 2 months has nearly passed already!
Earlier you will remember I said the hostel seemed to be fine, well, it was until we had a new set of people! Blocking the loos everyday and being sick everywhere (self inflicted btw) so after 5 nights I decided to knock it on the head and move onto Krabi.......
Hope the rain has stopped for you all and that you're all okay
