Like the cricket rain stopped play! Well so much for the turtle watching! We arrived in Bargara expecting to see the turtles nesting on the beach and then dive in the morning, however 2hours before we were due to start on our very best David Attenborough impressions the most incredible storm came through the town! We have never seen lightening like it, it was amazing. The skies were covered with lightening effects, some forming shapes like Christmas trees. With this going on the Mon Repos research centre decided it would be too dangerous for anyone to be on the beaches, so unfortunately it was cancelled! In the end we decided to sit and watch the storms. We were on a campsite which was right on the beach, so we had some amazing views (shame we don't have an SLR camera!!) Needless to say the diving that we had arranged for the following day was also very unlikely, however with high hopes we decided to go and see Dan anyway. We had met the dive team the day before and I have to say if anyone is looking at diving in Bargara go and see them as I've never met such friendly people! With the weather calmed we got all the dive equipment ready and were driving down the beach when the rain started again! When we reached the sea, it was so choppy unfortunately a time out was declared on the dive! After some careful deliberation over a few cups of coffee (we were told the storms were predicted for a few days) we decided to leave town and hunt down the sun! So here were are in Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsunday's. We arrived Wednesday afternoon to glorious sunshine! After a couple of days on the road we have now settled in at another caravan park and have looked at some possible excursions while we are here. The Whitsunday's for those that don't know is a cluster of 71 islands (similar looking to the Maldives), so as you can imagine it's like paradise! The Whitsunday's is famous for sailing so you may have guessed where our first stop was! We have booked a three day/night sailing trip around the islands. The boat is called the Pacific Sunrise (a 33metre sailing yacht) where we have our own private cabin and ensuite facilities! We booked it through the PADI diving shop so we can dive whilst onboard. We depart on Sunday and arrive back in Airlie beach on the Wednesday evening and we can't wait to have some luxury for a change! This however meant a shopping spree to make sure that I had everything a girl needs when she is embarking on a glam boat trip for a few days!! (Well I had packed for campervan living!!) So a few hours later and I have myself a new bikini and a dress for the evening, well I'm on holiday!!With a few days to spare before departing, we pondered on how to fill our time, so this morning we decided to throw ourselves out of a plane at 13000 feet!! Yes, Pete and I did a skydive! Well what can we say, we are still smiling, it was amazing. We were going to do this in Cairns but with a view of the islands and days to spare we couldn't really say no! I was petrified, however like a big kid as soon as we landed I wanted to go up again! Again the people there were brilliant, we decided to buy the obligatory DVD and we are so glad we did, as not only have we got a 15 minute film of the whole thing but it included approx 70 photos as well!! The guys there was so helpful, they allowed us to download all the photos onto our laptop which means we can share them with you now!!So after a very adrenaline filled day (the jump and my credit card spending!!) we are currently sitting here after an afternoon swim ready to cook dinner (tonight it is lamb chops, new potatoes and coleslaw.) The supermarkets and butchers here are great and what is so lovely to see is that the butchers here can still stay open as well and thrive with a big supermarket just next door!! (unlike home!) We have another free day tomorrow so no idea what we could get up to!! Will up-date you after our adventures at sea!Take care Lou and Pete x
