Road trip from Ljubljana to Plitvice Lakes.
This morn we went to the Ljubljana markets for brekky. There was hundreds of stalls with fruit and berries and souvenirs. I am in heaven with all the raspberries and blueberries and blackberries mmm. We all got some berries and a croissant and coffee (combo was 1.60€).
Up the furnicular to the Ljubljana castle to look around and back in the car for our 3 hour trip to Plitvice Lakes!
The weather has started to take a turn for the worse. Today is overcast but still hot at 32 degrees celcius. Tomorrow we were planning to do the walk of plitvice, but the weather in forecast as stormy and max of 17 degrees c. So today is the day.
After arriving at the Lakes about 5pm, Blake parks us in 'zone pine' of the parking lot which is really more just cars parked haphazardly between trees and shrubs wherever they could find a spot.
Trekking approximately 3km around the lakes took about 1.5 hours. We winded up and down through lush forest on a never ending boardwalk over the clear water of the lakes which revealed fish and baby yabbies. Waterfalls were scattered everywhere, running over moss covered rocks and pooling in lakes that ranged from clear to turquoise green and blue in colour. Mother nature started to take her turn to a light sprinkling as we reached the end- great timing. That night and the next day it would be pouring with rain, lightning and thunder so it was a wise choice we did the lakes today.
Comments from the boys about the lakes:
Blake said it was 'picturesque... lots of waterfalls...waterfalls everywhere... boardwalks everywhere'. Scott said it was 'scenery worthy of being on a desktop background', so there you have it. They both agreed it was a beautiful spot and while they enjoyed it, both were not expecting croatia to look like this at the lakes.
A dinner at a traditonal croatian restaurant named Licka Kuca was delicious. An entree of bread and fresh sheep cheese, with stuffed trout, homemade sausages, Licka skewers, roast vegetables and potatoes between us. Dessert was apple strudel and walnut log.
The BnB we stayed at was a cute pink house with a older croation lady. She insisted that we pay her in cash, however did not have any change for our 600 kuna (each couple owed her 525 Kuna). All of us thought it was ridiculous to get your guests to pay cash if you cannot accomodate them with correct change. Luckily Lou and Blake had broken a bigger note at dinner and were able to lend us the money to pay our fee as well.
