When we arrived in Chiang Rai we stayed at Akha River House. The place is run by Akha tribes people & they run Akha Hill House up in the mountains & run trekking from there, which we wanted to do.
We stayed there in Chiang Rai that night as truck would come & collect us from there & take us up to the hill house at 4.30pm the next day.
So that day we explored Chiang Rai. It isn't very big so we managed to walk around it all pretty much! Then we came back to be collected by the hill house truck.
The truck was a pick up truck so our bags went on the top of the cab & we went in the back which was fun! We picked up a german couple on the way called Stefanie & Marius. The road was very steep & bumpy on the way up, with no concrete for alot of it. So we were hanging on for dear life!
When we got there it was dark. Not dark how we know it but mountain dark!
The owner Mr Apae was there & had saved us a room specially as we had chatted to him down at the river house. He showed us a bungalow with a balcony with a beautiful view. He saved us that one as it was our honeymoon! We were delighted!
The next day we went trekking. When we awoke in our bungalow the view was breath taking! All you can see is trees & mountains.
Stefanie & Marius came trekking too. As we had convinced them over a few beers the night before! Our guide was Achu. He was very friendly & spoke English well.
We trekked through the Akha village then right into the jungle. It was a steep climb to begin with then we stopped & Achu showed us how to make a cup out of bamboo. Dando had been very excited as Achu had given the boys their own machete knife to carry. So they also tried to make a cup, turns out it is very hard!
So we carried on walking & reached a spot for lunch. Achu filled bamboo tubes he had cut with veg & put them on the fire to cook. He brought some noodles too, so when the veg had cooked he placed them & the noodles on a banana leaf & steam cooked the noodles. He made us chop sticks to eat with with his knife & we used our cups as plates! What a feast!
We then trekked all through the jungle for hours. The views were spectacular & Achu cut us down some passion fruit to eat which were so delicious!
At the end of the trek we reached the biggest waterfall we had ever seen & had a swim in it! It was so much fun!
What a few days! Thailand is awesome! Xxx
