Day 40 - Adrenaline time in Livingstone!
Hello from Zambia! Since our last update we have travelled through Malawi to Zambia. We had a couple of very long driving days to get here (with some 4.30am starts!) but it is worth the journey.
In Malawi we spent a few days camping by the lake, but we did not swim thanks to expert parasite advice (thanks Gem!) The beach was still lovely and we had a good couple of party nights with the group. On our last morning, we had a very early start which was made even better by a 20m line of red army ants which bite - lots!! all of the group was attacked and they anchored in to our flip flops, so there was lots of jumping and shouting which woke up the rest of the campsite no doubt!
We have now been in Zambia for a few days, and it is much more developed than the other countries we have visited. We spent the first night in the capital at a great campsite with a pool, and are now in Livingstone which is adrenaline central. Yesterday we went to the 'devil's pool' which is a plunge pool at the very edge of Victoria Falls (pretty much like the one in the photo) We had to jump in then let the current take us to the edge, where there was a rocky ridge which you could sit on, right on the edge of the falls. The scariest part (for Louise at least) was the fish that nibble your feet and legs, an experience that she had specifically avoided whilst in Malaysia (you would have been proud of me dogs!)
We officially finish our tour today, but are spending the next couple of nights here before flying to cape town for a couple of weeks. It has been great fun travelling with the group and will be sad to say goodbye! However we have made plans to meet up with people along the way which will be great.
Lots of love xxxx
