Day 66 - Melbourne
G'Day! We've now reached our 2nd continent and 6th country after 3 days of travelling! We flew from Johannesburg to Perth (once they finally accepted our visas) and spent a night in Perth. We didn't get chance to see much, but it seemed like a nice city and it was great to be able to walk everywhere again without feeling like you had to look over your shoulder all the time!
We've spent 5 days in Melbourne staying with John's relatives, which has been lovely and very nice to have some home comforts. We now have properly clean clothes for the first time in ages! We've been spoilt with home cooking and even a day trip along the peninsular to some great beaches and little towns.
We really like the city, it's very lively and has some beautiful buildings. We spent a day sightseeing and shopping (mainly Louise!) and then met up for dinner with a friend of Louise's from Cheltenham. It was great to be out in a city on a Friday night, again something we have not done since we left. Africa's nightlife generally consisted of a campfire!
Yesterday we went on the neighbours tour (extended version!) for Louise's birthday which was very exciting even for John Robbins. This included a visit to the studio outdoor sets - Lassiters, Charlies, Harold's Store, park area and the Uni, a visit to the street and a star meeting with Janelle Timmins! It was all a bit too exciting for Louise, and we got some good storyline spoilers!
In the evening we met up with our friend Debs who we met on the overland trip. We had takeaway at her house and reminisced about the trip. It's been great to see some familiar faces over here.
We're off to Cairns tomorrow for a couple of days before picking up our campervan to start ou journey down the east coast ready for christmas in Sydney!
We've also managed to put some photos up (at last!) and there are a few more on facebook.
Lots of love, John and Louise xxx
