On The Road with Lou!
I had been bugging Bill to appear in my Blog as a guest columnist, but he wasn't keen to the idea, but I persisted! He was adamant it wasn't his thing, but I thought it would be neat to hear the same story we are experiencing together, from his perspective.
He is writing on an iPad so I cut him some slack as it took him about 3 days to get it in to me. Here it is completely unabridged or edited, except for some formatting;
Hi, my name is Bill and I'm Lou's BIL (brother in law).
For years I've been entertained by Lou's travels and being a motorcycle rider myself I hinted, well many it was stronger than a hint, that I would like to join him sometime.
Last year he suggested that I meet him in Montana and I jumped at the chance but being as I spend a lot of time in the good old USA I could only join him for a few days but that's all it took to firmly set the hook.
So, first let me tell you a little about the relationship we have: I first met Lou some 50 years ago when I was courting his sister Agnes. I teased him once that I probably changed his diaper when he was a baby and he should give me more respect and his reply was that in the not too distant future he may be required to change mine. Ouch!
I enjoy riding with him as he is an accomplished rider and it's easy to predict what he is going to do in any given situation.
The only derogatory thing I would say, and I hate to say anything bad about his motorcycle is that the rear signal lights are the size of quarters and, I suspect, the light bulbs were supplied from a Thomas Edison surplus store!
Given my druthers I would sleep till 6:00 AM and be on the road by 7:00 (hereafter known as the crack of Bill) whereas Lou would like to sleep in until 10:30 and be on the road at 11:00 (hereafter known as Geezer lunch) so we compromised at a send off time of 9:00.
Having said all that I tend to hit the hay at 10:00 PM and leave Lou to entertain himself. Who knows what he does in the intervening hours but I notice that many of his blogs are posted at 1:00AM.
I, on the other hand, rise at 6:00, shower, find a restaurant for breakfast, wash and generally clean my motorcycle....yeah, yeah, I know it's a Scooter but it has the heart and soul of a motorcycle and the brain of a computer.
This morning we agreed to an 11:00 start as we only had 109km to our destination of Skagway so I used the EXTRA time to take some morning shots of the town we were staying (Carcross) and here the are:
Perhaps if we get a show of support from our readers we can get some more submissions from our friend Bill? What do you say people?
