Now at this point I have to mention that fateful day in Mar del Plata. Seaside city, loads of sun, few beers and the eventual realisation we were both burnt to a crisp.
Yes! Brits abroad syndrome ....... And I've got a lovely t-shirt tan which does not look good in a sleeveless top!! Very sexy !!!
And not to mention the peeling. I'm not quite sure how much of myself I've left in Uruguay, but I'm sure they could rebuild me - now there's a thought!
So the trip continued with a rather hastily booked hostel in Punta del Diablo.
This town is described in the Lonely Planet as a chilled out hippy resort!!
I could only describe it as a cross between American 'spring break' and for all those out there who've watched it ...... Jersey shore! A backpackers Mecca with basically no paved roads, just sandy gravel, and no real street names just handmade hostel signs...........
Obviously we had to ride the bikes around town, it would be rude not too, we arrived at the hostel!
It was the hottest day so far and both dripping with sweat.......lovely! So couldn't wait to jump into the shower, chill out in the hammocks on the veranda and then explore this strange little place!
Unfortunately not !!!!
Both had beds in the dorms but where .............I had the female dorm and Drew the mixed (it was the only options available). But then the waiting game started. No one could be placed until everyone had arrived for the day. By 6 pm - we had arrive at least 3 hours ago - still no solution! I talked to the staff and they said " just chill out and wait" .........but for how much longer ????
Drew disappeared on the bike for alternatives but nothing was available.......so just chill out and wait it was!!
So we headed for the sea-front and the numerous 'cobbled together ram shackled bars/ restaurants' for a beer and some dinner!
9pm!!
Surely something had to have been sorted!
In the meantime the wind had picked up and everything was covered in a fine layer of sand, including us and the bikes!
Now the 6th Jan is a Saints day so everyone was here celebrating.........and celebrate they did! All through the night and even when we left at about 9am the following morning, revellers were still spilling out of the local 'club' !!!
So sandy roads! Pissed kids! Mounted police! And 2 large bikes.......a little weaving was in order !!! On top of NO sleep !!!
The joy of adventure biking ........anyone care to join in now ????
