So we had escaped early yesterday morning ready for the unknown..........that is the border crossing into Brazil !
Short trip there, only about 30km, to one of the busiest crossing points between Uruguay and Brazil.
Passed one 'check-point' ......nothing to be done there! "Carry on a few more km's" they said. "No problem"
Ok! So on we went to the next one. All they wanted was our passports so they could be stamped. No motorbike paperwork, no forms to be completed ! Thanks very much and Adios Uruguay.
Now it's always wise when you get to this point is to use the local amenities whilst you can, who knows what's on 'the other side'..........so we filled up the tanks, took time out for a cold drink, let the locals take photos (both with and on the bikes - which is standard practice as an adventure biker), took a deep breath and went for Brazil.
Border crossings are always the unknown. Someone could go through this proces only an hour or so in front and have no problems at all, meanwhile you can have all the s***e that immigration office can throw at you! Best to hit them whilst they're fresh and preferably without a hangover (thats the officer NOT me I hasten to add) ...........
But this one turned out to be pretty easy. No queues, just a small form to be completed, passport stamped, V5 handed over, couple of signatures and declaration as to the value of the motorbike!
What NO MONEY !!
This was just a little too easy !! But hey, I'm not going to argue !! If that's what they want ..........
The road out of here to Rio Grande was pretty boring, with only my MP3 player for company. After a quick stop to refuel, say "hello" to the local dog and chickens is was into the town!
However, there was a slight detour as we were entering the town. This took us down a side road which quickly turned into a dirt one. We pulled over and shortly after that a car pulled up alongside and promptly warned us that if we went any further we may either be shot or robbed ...........
Mmmmm!! WELCOME TO BRAZIL !! Thanks !!
Think we may have been slightly spoilt in Uruguay .......
But we still made it to the hotel safely!
Town itself was pretty boring, everything started to close up shortly after we got there. As for the locals, they were extremely friendly and had the offer of being shown around town. Plus the offers of information regarding the days ahead and the road options available, not bad, only been here for less than 24 hours, what will the next few days bring ????
