Yesterday we were up bright and early after a disrupted sleep thanks to the snoring man! We enjoyed breakfast of frosties and bread with dulce de leche and jam before making our way down to the ferry terminal. We checked in and had around an hour to wait before we boarded the boat and set sail back to Buenos Aires at 10.30am. We managed to stay awake during the journey and arrived back in Argentina just after 11.30am. We collcted our luggage and took a taxi straight to the Retirobus station. We left our bags in the luggage storrage and waited for Bella and a new girl she had met in her hostel, Hannah, to meet us. Once they had also stored their bags we headed into town and to the little resto-bar we had visited a few days previous. We enjoyed tuna and sweetcorn salad and a coffee (Laura) and Chicken Risotto followed by lemon sorbet for Sarah. All washed down with a big glass of vino!
After we had eaten we took a stroll down the pedestrianised Florida Mall, browsing in the shops, including C&A again! Once we were shopped out we made our way back to the Retiro where we chilled out for a bit got a few supplies and collected our bags ready for our Andesmar bus to Mendoza.
We boarded the bus just after 7.00pm and left on time at 7.20pm. We were told we had meals included and were excited at what was in store but first of all we had to leave busy Buenos Aires. We made one pick up on the outskirts of the city then headed onto the motorway. First surprise in store was a game of bingo! We got chance to practice our spanish numbers but he was a bit fast for us! Sarah sweated but unfortunately we didn´t win the bottle of wine on offer! After the game our host Fernando put on the film License to Wed, staring Robin Williams, unfortunately it was in Spanish but he put on the english subtitles so we could still watch!
Whilst the film was on we were ´treated´to our meal! We got given a plastic tray and a tray of food similar to what you get on the planes. We had bread (but no butter) and a flan type thing with a slice of ham and egg and then half a peach in syrup for desert. We were finishing the bread and flan - trying to make it less dry with the little sachet of mayonaise we had recieved - when our hot meal came out! It was breaded chicken and chips! Not the nicest food to reheat on a bus - the chicken was dry but edible with mayo and the chips were just about uncooked and quite soggy - nice! You did get a glass of 7-up to wash it down with tho! Oh well we will know to take a snack next time!
After the film had finished we tried to sleep in our very comfy reclining seats, however it was lightening all around us and we kept our eyes on the storm. At one point Laura thought she had seen a tornado forming in the distance and then the bus veered across the road in the wind - luckily we think it was her imagination and it just felt more windy on the top deck of the bus! We finally tried to sleep, not doing too badly but waking every so often with a stiff neck or pins and needles. We were finally woken for good by Fernando serving ´breakfast`of coffee and a biscuit! We wern´t expecting a fry up but a bit more than that at least!
We were due into Mendoza at 9.20am but it soon became clear we would be much later (possibly due to road blockages and farming protests around the country and maybe the storm). Luckily we had cereal bars to snack on and we finally arrived in Mendoza at 12.45pm.
We took a taxi to the hostel, then after getting a bit of information on some activities, we headed into town for some lunch. We enjoyed stuffed beef (Laura) and roast chicken (Sarah) with salad and a glass of wine.
We then strolled around the city, picking up some supplies at the supermarket and doing a bit more shopping! There were not really many sights as we had missed the opening times of the Mercardo Central, so we had a walk through the Plaza Independencia and the Plaza Espana and along the main streets before returning to the hostel to confirm some activities and chill out.
