Dunedin was settled by Scottish immigrants and the Scottish history is very evident. it is the oldest city in New Zealand. The population is about 120,000. It is home to the University of Otago with 20,000 students. It also is a large agriculture centre. One of the attractions is Cadbury World with a tour of the chocolate plant (presumably based here because of the dairy industry). Our day was seriously hampered by the weather - it rained all day, so we did not do too much touring. But, from our limited observation, Dunedin is a very attractive city. While we did not tour the countryside, we understand it is equally attractive. If we ever get back to New Zealand, we will make a serious effort to get back to Dunedin and the surrounding area for a few days.
