On your bike!
Today we explored Vancouver using pedal power. The day started with a relaxed cycle along the seawall towards Stanley park. Stanley park is recognised as one of the greatest urban parks in the world.
The seawall is 9km and runs all the way around the park. On the way round we had great views of Vancouver harbour with its many expensive yachts. Further round we stopped to see the totem poles, each totem represents a family. Then we decided to explore the centre of Stanley park, this turned out to be a lush rainforest with towering red cedar trees and secluded lakes.
After that we headed back to the seawall and cycled onto Yaletown, which is the cosmopolitan part of the city. It has lots of shops and trendy bars, looks good for a night out!
Next we cycled up to Gastown the oldest part of Vancouver (not that old really!). All the cycling had given us quite an appetite so we found a quirky pub for a late lunch. We each ordered a main meal but it ended as a massive 3 course meal (free garlic bread, free salad and free ice cream!).
After recovering from the feast we made our way over to Chinatown where we found some authentic Chinese gardens. These were the first Chinese gardens to be built outside China. All the trees, plants and rocks were shipped over from china. They were beautiful and a good spot to do some meditating!
Finally, we finished the day by watching the sunset over the sea on sunset beach.
A busy but great day!
With love
