Day 41: 19/7/13
This morning we got a bus to Hue. We managed to get all our patients on the bus- including some new ones!! There's about three people not feeling well now- it better not keep spreading!! Although, they all have different complaints!
Hue was the capital city of Vietnam during the Nguyen dynasty- so it was a royal city (from 1802-1945 maybe??). In 1945 the 13th king abdicated the throne to Ho Chi Minh and there was the French war and so on. As it was a royal city Hue has lots of royal buildings- palaces and pagodas and stuff.
On the way we passed marble mountain which is an area where people do lots of carvings and marble statues. Beside that was China Beach, the area where the Americans had an air base- you could still see the hangars for the helicopters there. The beach there was gorgeous and now they have big hotels and casinos along the coast.

We went for lunch when we got to the hotel and then we had a tour of the citadel. We got a taxi to bring us into the citadel which is the old walled city and our guide was our tour guide there. He used to work there as a tour guide for day trips so he was able to just show us highlights and tell us lots of information, but we didn't walk around the whole thing. For some reason he decided to pretend that he was Bob Marley and that Khoa had recommended that we have him as our guide- it was quite funny! Later on, when we got back, Hannah and Steff who hadn't gone to the tour thought that we had really met someone called Bob Marley!
The citadel was the grounds of the king of the Nguyen dynasty. When they ruled the country they made Hue the capital, between 1802 and 1945. 13 kings from the Nguyen dynasty ruled here until the 13th king abdicated the throne to Ho Chi Minh in 1945. Hue was chosen as the capital as its in the centre of the country so if needed they could send an army to any border easily. Also, the ancestors of the Nguyen area were from Hue so they returned to this area.
