Day 14: 22/6/13
This morning I'd to get the Greyhound bus at 8:13 so it was another early start! There was a shuttle bus from the hostel and a few other people were getting the same bus so it was grand. It came on time and seemed to keep on schedule throughout the morning, which is always good. The bathroom was locked though which was a real pain in the ass. Usually there's a working toilet in every bus and all the buses I've been on have stopped every hour for a toilet break when I haven't needed to go at all. Of course an hour into this journey I needed the bathroom and realised it was locked and I'd to spend a whole hour holding it until we got to a place Caloundra!!
After another hour and a half we reached Brisbane. We had about an hour and a half to spend there and Mike met me there for a cup of tea and a chat. Shane was working so he couldn't come. I'd a good catch up with Mike anyway and heard all about the antics on the new runway and told him about my entertaining jeep buddies in Fraser and other bits and pieces!
We had a three hour journey then to Byron bay which wasn't too bad. A shuttle bus collected us from the bus stop to bring us to the hostel. We had to wait a few minutes for it, but it did save us walking ten minutes with the luggage! There was an Italian girl on the bus that I met on the bus to Airlie beach and she was in Fraser Island on my second night there too. She was staying in the same hostel and ended up in the same room aswell.
We went down the town for a bit of a walk, but the sun at already set at this stage- shortly after 5pm. She wanted to look in the shops for souvenirs so I wandered around a bit of the town and saw the beach and stuff. I had been told it was a hippy town and it definitely is! At the beach there were a load of people playing bongo drums and a few people dancing. There was a big crowd of them!
I got some food and then met the Italian girl, Maggie again. We were going to go for a drink in some pub where she had a voucher for a free drink but we didn't find it! I wasn't bothered about going out really as I'm going kayaking at 9:30 tomorrow morning!
We went back to the hostel and I skyped Mam. Dad was gone golfing but I was chatting to Mam for a good while about nothing much really! I ended up going to bed early then as the other girls in our room were in bed and had the light off. The lions match was on this evening so it probably would have been a good evening to go out, but I wouldn't enjoy it with the kayaking in the morning and probably not without some other Irish/English people for the sake of the lions match. There seems to be loads of people over here for it anyway- I saw lots of lions jerseys in Brisbane today!!
