Florence passed by so quickly that now that I'm gone it feels like I was never even there. Arrived at my hostel pretty late and managed to make a few skype calls before waking up all the girls sleeping in my room. Thought they had mistakenly put me in a female dorm for a minute because everyone was just staring at me when I opened the door. Thursday posed a challenge because my buddy Marco was getting into town around seven and I knew he wouldn't wanna see any of the sites since he's been here before. After doing some laundry in the sink to avoid a hefty fee of ten euro to use the machines, I hopped the bus to piazza San Marco. Saw the massive dome but I'd have to say the highlight of the afternoon would be seeing Michaelangelo's David. I'm not exactly an art conneissure, but even the unseasoned eye can tell this work is perfection. Managed to sneak my way into one of the many guided tours and eavesdropped a little. Turns out that this statue was meant to capture the moment right before he went to battle with goliath. Couldn't tell from
Fourteen feet down, but I looked at a souvineer shop book and the expression chissled into his face and eyes truely do capture exactly how he must have felt staring at the giant. The rest of the body was finely detailed as well without as much as a vein missing. Bought a bottle of limoncella for after dinner and before the big festival. 30 percent alcohol and still tastes damn close to lemonaid. Good work Italy. Marco arrived and we got a no
Holds barred Italian meal from our massive hostel. Bread followed by pasta followed by salad with four different types of sausages followed by tiramisu, then traditionally coffee and a shot of limoncella to cleanse your pallet and aid digestion. Now I know
Americans don't take the time to really appreciate a good meal and everything that comes with it, but this was borderline ridiculous. We missed the fireworks over the old bridge (built in the 1300s!!). After downing the
Limoncella we both went out and managed to find a little trouble. Today we headed to piazza michaelangelo to get a grasp on what Florence looks like
From above. Really marvelous, but while we were there a guided tour group called contiki arrived and began barking orders to thier little tourist puppets about taking group photos. Marco and I had a few laughs and I was reassured that resisting the temptation to have Europe handed to me via tour bus and teeshirt was a good move. Day ended with a bang. Decided last night to take a ferry to Croatia and saw only one at nine. Today in order to save a buck
I took the slow train putting me at the port city of Ancona at eight. Bad decision. Had to beg a few Croats to pass them in the ticket line and did a
Full out sprint and eight fifty nine across the port. Beginning to be less and less worried about these situations and could only think about Jack from titanic. Hopefully the night doesn't end anything like the movie...
