Still have a few days left to experience
Croatia, but figured I'd sum up Dubrovnik while I'm on the bus ride back to split. Arrived in Croatia just before seven am and hopped the bus down to dub city due to the lack of a train system. Upset i had to shell out more cash for transport but the views offered were worth it. It's called the dalmation coast and was filled with bold and steep mountains falling straight down into the patchy turquoise waters. Maybe the name comes from the many different shades of blue and green that you see. Just happened to be next to a practicing lawyer from Australia and we had a nice conversation about the American education system and the job market for international lawyers. A cancer research physician was across the isle and wound up talking to her when I couldn't keep up with the uber-cultured and sophisticated talk. Didn't matter, the sailboats tacking through the clear water under those hulking mountains was enough to keep me occupied. Once in Dubrovnik I headed to the beach for a bit and watched a little soccer in the hostel. Met an interesting girl studying art at nyu named flora and we wound up seeing the city and meeting other people together. Must say she is the first backpacker that I wasn't happy to pal around with. Could be the new yorker in her, but she definitely had a stubborn and prissy attitude about her. Anyhow, we saw the most famous, old part of the city the next day. Was drizzling the entire day and kind of robbed us of the best part- the clear and colorful waters surrounding the
City walls. Still had a good time walking around on top of the wall and marveling the historical sites. Managed to talk one of the excursion companies into giving us a really decent deal on a booze cruise the next day. Consequently the next day the two of us and two hilarious Brits sailed out to island hop. 8 hours at sea, fresh fish lunch, and all we could drink for around 25 bucks. Not
In western Europe anymore! Beaches were on par, but the best part was comparing and contrasting cultures with the English. Now I'm off to brac island. My plan is to rent a scooter and see the island and a famous beach called zlatini rat or the golden horn. Staying at the funky donkey hostel and can't wait to see what the hype is about.
