Hello Malaysia! And we were pleasantly surprised to not be charged for our visa . By accident or not we're not sure so we'll just keep it quiet for the time being. I had worked out that the bus station we should arrive at was a ten minute walk away from our hostel. Score. That plan would have worked if we'd arrived into that bus station and not one on the outskirts of KL and us absolutely clueless where we were. Two metros later and we were there back in hostel world once more. The place was on the second floor of a building. When we reached the first floor we told ourselves 'let's not judge until we reach it, you never know it might be fine' and when we reached the second floor it was a different world. We had to walk through the fake jungle and past the hamsters and the giant fish tank with three turtles and three huge fish. It was a better aquarium than Trivandrum Zoo. Luckily no zoo inside our room for a change and we quickly fell asleep.
Up bright and early as the bathroom (directly behind our room) seemed to be the place to hang out at 6.30am. Dazed and confused for a moment we thought we'd awoken in Beijing city centre, we were actually in Chinatown so close, and we silently cursed them for sounding so joyful, and generally being so bloody noisy, so early.
When we did wake properly we got an early (for some) start on the day and headed to the infamous Petronas towers. Every bit as magnificent in the flesh we were impressed, and then mightily disappointed as we learned that visits to the Sky bridge and Observation deck are closed for renovations. After exploring the outside and taking the obligatory photos we went for a walk in the park, decided against the aquarium because of the price, and instead opted for the marginally cheaper Fish Spa, and so spent half an hour with the big and little uns nibbling away at our hardworking feet. Oh and e had the standard Starbucks as well, who was saving money...
We wondered around the giant shopping mall under and inside the Petronas towers and we ate lunch and dinner in the food court inside, had some Thai noodles and fried rice and then went to the cinema and saw Tower Heist. It was a bit surreal watching English films and for a moment we almost forgot where we were. The price was amazing though only £2.50 each. We thought this was so much of a bargain we went back the next day for In Time. This time we didn't quite forget we were as the reaction of the crowd. We're pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be a comedy, but the rest of the crowd apparently did and they cracked up at the dying man's tender message for Justin Timberlake. Odd. We had planned to visit the Botanical Gardens but as soon as we got on the monorail it began to hammer down. And so we decided to stay indoors for a while, have some cake and watch another film. Tough life. We walked home once it had stopped raining and had dinner in Chinatown. Out early in the morning for our bus up north to the beaches. Fingers crossed for better weather than KL!
