Day 2 - 15th July - Fairbanks to Brooks Range- 562km
Bear Country Camping
Today would have to rate as one of the best riding days to date. The highlight would have to be Atigun Pass in the Brooks Ranges.
Crossed the Arctic Circle early morning so I will have to tick that one off the list. It was raining at the time and the small tripod for my camera broke, so it had taken a bit messing about to get the shot. Temperature was down to 3 degrees.
Decided to camp in bear country half way to Deadhorse, overlooking the Brooks Range. I had the whole area to myself, not sure if that was a good or bad thing. A food locker was provided so it would be away from camp and the scent would not attract bears. Still had the can of bear mace at the ready.Heard some stories that if it's too windy it blows back in your face. Also people have been spraying it on their clothes. Guess the outcome was not good!
Cheers
