Hello from Kathmandu
(This is my second attempt at writing my blog, monsoon has arrived the weather is a bit damp outside to say the least and we just had power cut,not uncommon here).
Arrived Thursday 21st after leaving Delhi on an early morning flight. So glad to be here in Kathmandu, impressions so far is it's a great little place. But first must tell you about making it to Delhi (in the end) and visiting the Taj.Didn't make it to Delhi until Wednesday morning (to cut things short and before the next power cut).We were about 200k out of the city Tuesday night when a car undercut us and hit the truck,no one was injured and thanks to Steve's(our driver) skill we stopped without causing a oile up.We all were shaken by the experience as it was late and most of us were snoozing,we ended up having to camp in the grounds of a hotel.
So Wednesday morning arrived into Delhi and those of us (Rach, wee Martin and myself) that are on the Everest trek decided to travel down to Agar to see the Taj.We first had to pick a letter up from post resonate at the main post office.Don't use this service in Delhi,it's terrible and it's a farce of a service. We picked up a guide and car for 4000Rs(a couple of pounds in sterling) for the day and after a four hour journey and the mad roads with bustling traffic and cows wandering out onto the road we made it but too late to make the main entrance. Two young lads that over heard what was happening tool us to the backside view of the Taj which is over a lake.So after crossing on a make shift raft that we managed not to capsize we got our view of the Taj before the sunlight faded.Captured the moment and got a view and an experience not many other people will get.We tipped our two young guides generously for their efforts and made our journey back to Delhi arriving after midnight, was wrecked and still needed to pack for Everest trek.Another late night/early morning with not much rest.
Anyway arrived in Kathmandu and staying at a great guest house called Tibet peace guest house.True to it's name it's a haven of tranquility, just what i need.I set of tomorrow morning at 5 for the airport where we fly to Lukla and we begin treking.Wish me luck keep me in your thoughts and i hope i'm fit enough and will remain well enough to do it.It'll take 14days to complete and not hopeful of internet access during this time.Until the next time my fingers hit the keyboards.
Ave x x x x x x
