Ankgor Wat
The ancient temples of Ankgor Wat are a tremendous architectural feat. Our day exploring them started at 4.12a.m.A short cycle out in the moonlight to Ankgor to catch the first ray of sunshine over the temples was worth the early rise.As the sun rose in the sky over a new day and over the temple of Ankgor Wat i dined and had breakfast taking in the view all on a red plastic chair.Strooled round Ankgor Wat which is the largest religious building in the world, climbing up it's many stair cases and through it's many corridors taking in the wall carvings that are immense and so difficult to believe it was all created by hands many many years ago. After Ankgor Wat we explored on bicycles the many temples of this complex.I'll let the pictures do the talking when i upload them.To name a few we visited Bayon, the grounds of Ankgor Thom,Ta Prohm,Ta Som,Preah Neak Pean,Preah Khan and cycling under the archways of the north, south and east gateways of Ankgor Thom all on the bicycles covering close to 25k (it was also 12k round trip from home to Ankgor Wat). The little legs did some peddling yesterday, all worth it.My favourite temple had to be Preah Khan which had been abandoned to time as its structures crumbled and nature had taken root. The day ended as the sun set and the rain fell first softly and then the heavens opened,we got soaked. The colours of the rain drops as they splashed on the road in the light from the traffic as i started to feel the rain soak in until every last stitch i was wearing was wet through. The puddles were warm as they spashed up on my feet each time i rode through them.A great cycle home, the boys in tow,i had spent a great day in the company of Johno and Will.
Tomorrow it's back on the truck and fasten the seatbelts as it is a bumpy ride to the Thai border and onto Bangkok city who boasts of o population of 6 million. It has been rumoured that a certain airline company gives donations to a certain politic party to slow down the plans to upgraded the infrasture in this area hoping it'll persuading more people to take the plane.
I should be back on the airwaves to so can be reached by texting anytime, not sure what the time difference is in Thailand but i'm currently 6hrs ahead here in Siem Reap.Take care Ave x x x
