London 2 Cape Town
Well we are in Cairo and so far so good.
The Egyptian border crossing was a nightmare, taking over 5 hours even though we had all the right documents and answers to questions.
We were sad to say goodbye to Libya. It is a country that gets a bad press, but the people are so welcoming and friendly and our guide, Waleed was an amazing guy who very kindly let us stay at his house for the first night.
It feels like we are about a third of the way there now, although driving from here on in is going to slow down. So far we have been spoilt with tarmac and have been able to easily do 500km a day, however, Sudan will be a different story.
We are presently waiting to pick up our Sudan visa which will be ready for collection at 2pm and once that is done it we will look to head South from Cairo. Although its an amazing place with over 18million people in it, cities are a nightmare in a big landrover especially when the cars and pedestrians are all intent on killing themselves. Once we have seen the pyramids we will be happy to leave.
We both send our love to everyone that is worrying about us and thank you for checking our progress. I hope the photos give you some idea of what we are experiencing, however, in dodgy situations the camera normally stays well hidden, so you are getting a rose tinted view of our trip.
We would be very grateful for any comments on our message board. They don't have to funny, but I think Henry is bored of my chat already so it would be good to amuse him!
Best wishes/lots of love
Ali and Henry
