Early in the morning we loaded our pickup, hit the road, and followed it all the way to the Murchison Falls National Park. A park that has it all: a really stunning savannah scenery, some “Exotic” animals on the way, and above all the awesome Murchison Fall!
As usual in Africa as soon as people see there is a kind of transport going their way, they ask to get a ride, and that is what happened as we entered the National Park. So a bunch of people made themselves comfortable at the back of our Pickup.
A few hundred meters after the gate a really BIG Welcome-committee was greeting us – a horde of Elephants which were crossing the street!!!
This is what I call a terrific good Welcome!!
But things got even better...
We passed the mighty river Nile via a ferry and got on the other side to our lodge to find out that our room were not ready yet, and so we drove on to the top of the Falls.
Well,...
Marianna and I were really starving almost to death, and so we did the same as the retired people do when they go on a journey, we sat down and started eating our well deserved lunch...
Now full of energy we started our short walk to the Falls, and due to the fact that I ate the most and so my "batteries" were fully loaded I walked ahead and found an incredible sight!
On the first sight the falls hide their truly beauty and power...
But first U have to set things in the right perspective:
Imagine the BIG and mighty river Nile floating along his epic journey to Egypt this giant amount of water and than finding itself forced to a gap that is only 6 meters broad and goes down more than 40 meters!!! Thus the river literally explodes into the falls making it the most powerful Waterfall in the World!!!
But as said above the Fall hides it’s awesome beauty, the first thing is U hear that incredible powerful sound of rushing water, and see were the Nile enters the gap and continues its way down.
Quite nothing prepares U for what is following....
U follow this way and suddenly a scenery opens in front of your eyes were U can only humble, stand in awe and just bring a overwhelmed WOW out of your mouth!
A gorge beyond beauty opens up in front of U, the exploding power of the water on the bottom of the gorge, the lush green hills on each side of the gap and than U see out of this gorge into the open fields of the savannah and the calmly flowing river Nile in between.
(at home I will add the picture, because a picture says more than 100 words)
But this was not all for this day
…
to be continued...
…
… and here we go ...
after this we went back to our lodge to finally check in and get our Bandas (which are just huts with beds) to get rid of our luggage, just to find out that they cleaned the wrong Bandas.... So again we kept our stuff and went on to catch the Boat.
This fantastic Boat ride brings U around 17km upriver to the Falls, bypassing the beautiful scenery spiced up with lots of Hippos, and I really mean plenty of them which are floating on the surface like small or big islands (depends how U look at it), sometimes forming a kind of pier or bridge for Indiana Jones like river passing.
But not only these funny, dangerous Hippos are there to see...
After a while we saw the first Elephants, awesome to see them from such close distance standing tall in front of U, incredible, I mean U know these ones from the Zoo, but these are wild ones living in their natural environment, this makes quite a difference...
Another species didn't let us wait too long to say "U better think twice before U swim in the Nile" the "world famous" Nile-Crocodile!!! I think everyone knows them or at least has heard about them, these are not animals to joke around!!! Wonderful!!! There is even a strech of Sand were lots of Crocos hang around in the sun and shallow water, they call it "Crocodile Bar" what a appropriate name for that!!
Yeah and the journey ended up in safe distance from the Falls (due to the strong currents). Again an awesome sight to see these from the Bottom....
After be came back from the Boat ride we finally got our Bandas, went for a well deserved dinner, and were all well exhausted of all the impressions U accumulated this day...
