FRASERS!!!
Well, what can we say……Fraser Island was incredible!!!! We got picked up early sat morning, to meet our guide for the weekend…BRETT!!! What a legend! Lucky we had him to make us chuckle, because the rest of the group were absolute gays. The group was made up of 13 swiss people, 1 Canadian, 3 Scottish people, and 1 other Brit. Took about 2 hours to get to Rainbow Beach where we boarded the ferry to Fraser‘s. Brett decided to take the “scenic” route, which meant dusty off roading, and plenty of bumps! Once the other side, it was another hour to our base camp. We drove half way on the back dirt tracks as it was high tide, and the rest of the way along 75 mile beach (running over a few jelly fish on the way!) A quick pit stop at the hostel for some lunch, then off to Eli Creek, a Shipwreck, the Pinnacles and Indian Head. Then it was back to camp for a BBQ dinner!! Lee sampled Kangaroo! After some drinks & card games we headed off down the sandy track to the local pub. Couple of drinks later, me and Lee headed back on our own, with our trusty maglite in hand. 1 minute into the walk home, who do we bump into on the dark & sandy track??? MR SNAKE!!!! A brown tree snake, midly venomous, and about 1.2 metres long. All we could do was wait for him to cross the path before making a quick dash back to camp!! Phew - were still alive. Next morning we went for a walk in a forest (not fun, legged it all the way to avoid the bugs!!) Then we headed to Lake Birabeen. Similar to Lake McKenzie, but bigger, and less tourists!! It was picturesque! White powdery sand, meets crystal clear, blue fresh water! It was like bath water - so warm and inviting! Spent about 3 hours there chilling out, then we went to a red lake for about half hour, wasn’t very nice. The water looked rusty! Then back to camp for spag bol dinner, and some Bulls***, Arse Hole and Trivial Pursuit. Me and Lee royally lost. Up nice and early Monday morning for another walk to Lake Wabby. A green lake, surrounded by trees and huge sand dunes! Felt like we were in the Sahara! Chilled out for a few hours, then made our way back to the main land along 75 mile beach. The weekend has been one of the highlights in our trip so far…
We are now in Hervey Bay and have been here for a day, just to cut the long journey to Agnes Water (1770) in half… We leave tomorrow and are looking forward to our Scooteroo’s experience.(Burning around on Choppers for a few hours, Thanks Marc and Bex). We will let you guys know how we got on, hopefully no crashes. XX
