After 2 weeks of crazy bus driving, being paparazzied by every local in town and eating some of the weirdest foods I have ever experienced, we have finally made it to Mandalay! We have travelled Myanmar quite quickly due to the fact that this land is untouched by tourists which makes things very difficult, no one speaks English, there are no English signs and the hostels are incredibly expensive! Even though the travel was difficult, Myanmar is a beautiful country and I would love to be able to explore it in more depth, maybe when they open up the rest of Myanmar for tourists I would be able to come back and finish what I started. My favourite part of Myanmar was Bagan, this old town with an old temple ruin on every corner, it was like something you would see in tomb raider, not a real place! We spent the days there exploring the ruins, you could find these secret passage-ways that were so small you had to squeeze through and you would come to a set of stairs that take you out onto the top of the temple so that you had this incredible 360 degree view of all the temples around. We climbed them all until we found the perfect one to watch the sunset on. After the sun set we started to ride our e-bike back to New Bagan (10km) and we just got to the main road when our battery died so we had to cycle up the hills and push off at the top of a hill and try and get our speed up to carry on as long as we can. (Our e-bike was basically a motorbike with pedals so could you imagine pedalling a motorbike with the weight of two people sat on the back?) you can ask alex how it felt as I would not be able to answer that.
