The next day we were back on the bus heading to Arequipa, Peru´s 2nd largest city. The city stands in a valley at the base of El Misti volcano, a snow capped perfect cone 5822m high. Its a very pretty city with nice spanish buildings and a beautiful main square, although there were roadworks going on everywhere and lots of dirty old builders!
After settling into our hotel rooms we quickly got ready to go out and celebrate Sophie and Michelle´s birthdays. We went to a lovely resteraunt called ZigZags which was a bit more expensive than we´re used to but the food and service was fantastic... and they gave us bibs!! Had a few coctails which were supposed to be passion fruit but left the taste of Guava in my mouth all night and then gave the girls their prezzies and giant chocolate cakes. Was absolutly shattered and stuffed, so went back to the hotel for a sleep. Woken up by kath bringing a canadian she fancied back to the room - highly amusing!
The next morning was absolutely beautiful so we headed into town to an ice cream parlour and then to a big shopping mall called Sagafallabella. Decided to mope around this teeeny shopping mall (was more like debenhams) so we could go the cinema. Saw 27 dresses which was pretty fun and went back to the hotel to sleep a little more!
Woke up the next morning and decided to visit the ice museum where had an hour long, guided tour around a museum. The museum was about about 8 inca girls who had been found at the top of the nearby, snow capped mountains about 4800m above sea level. They had been sacrificed to the mountains because the incas beleived that the mountains were the Gods. THe girls were sacrificed along with varoius gold, silver and copper intricate objects. As the girlsd had been covered in ice, they had been perfectly preserved and the hair, skin, everything was just like a human being today. Freeky but amazing! A really fun tour, which didnt last too long. The guide was excellent and spoke very good english. Very enjoyable. We then headed down town to a creparie where i had 2 incredible crepes, one with smoked salmon and creamy, dill sauce, the other just cheese, spinach and mushrooms!!! SOOO DELICIOUS!!! went on the net for a bit to update my blog but didnt! Was on shoping duty to Grace and I went to the supermarket. Bought some ingredients to make a risotto and for pud, Grace and I made chocolate rice cripsy cakes. Very yummy. Totally skint at the moment, have a balance of 0p in my account, so living off truck meals and other than that, one meal a day! YEY!
