I'm now in Queenstown and its been raining pretty much since I got to the South Island!! Christchurch was lovely, has a very English feel to it because of the architecture. However, I only got one night there before catching the 5 hour transalpine train to Greymouth! Stunning views of the hills and mountains. Greymouth is as it sounds, pretty grey! not much to do so we went on a brewery tour and drank lots of tasters of Monteiths beer! Great fun! The next day we headed down to Franz Josief, stopping on the way to visit a Bush Center and try Possum Pie, which tastes a little like chicken crossed with beef. Once in Franz Josief we went for an afternoon hike on the Glacier which was great fun, although very wet and cold! Apparently it rains a lot there. Again a small town so not much else to do after that and we headed down to Queenstown the next day. So here we are in Queenstown, enjoyed a typical backpacker night out and booked some activites for today...will let you know what i've done after in case mum reads this before i do it!! ha ha!! Weather is still wet and cold, but Queenstown is in a stunning location and the town, despite being purely for tourists is still very pretty. Hostels are really nice in New Zealand and people are so friendly. Travelling on a backpacker bus is good but I feel a little bit like a school kid with someone holding my hand all the way!!! Not long till I am home!! cant believe its almost a year! x
