Final Australia blog, how do we feel about that? Relieved and excited mainly. We are both giddy about returning to Singapore again and have lots of things planned, mainly eating lots and lots of Asian food.
Since we last blogged things have been pretty much the same, we stopped off in Airlie Beach for two days and had an interesting dorm of travellers. It was very expensive and we had tropical storms the whole time pretty much so we just chilled out and caught up on some reading and sleep :) The best bit was being able to pick our own mangos for breakfast from the grounds of the hostel for free.
Now we're in Cairns, it's a large seaside town with no beach, just mudflats!!! To compensate they've put a huge communal outdoor pool by the sea. This seems like a nice place for young children to be but unless you want a mouthful of wee, not the best for 'grown-ups'! It's a wee bit tacky to be honest. Our hostel is probably the best in terms of atmosphere that we've stayed in in Australia. It's cheap, grimy, basic and smelly but the people are great and the staff are really friendly. It's a very social place and we met some cool and interesting people there. One of the boys convinced us to lick the back of a green ant, quite a strange sensation. Tasted a bit like sour Haribos and made your tongue go a bit numb. Tonight we're going to begin our Asian food fest early and go to an Asian food court.
Hopefully, the boring blogs will be a thing of the past from hereon. Unfortunately we haven't done anything very exciting and therefore haven't had anything exciting to write about. Once we become excited about non-western backpacking again our blogs will hopefully reflect this...........
BRING ON ASIA (FOR SO MANY REASONS)...........
A very excited pair of travellers on the search for some more exciting (and dare we say it, challenging) backpacking!
Four weeks until the family reunion YIPPEEEEEEEEEE

Peter Shame that Australia hasn't really done it for you guys. You seem to have found all the main tourist spots and I'm kicking myself for not suggesting that you get off-the-track a bit more. Not as if it isn't easy to do in a country this size! Guess the exchange rate hasn't helped. Your mum and dad arrive on Sunday and will be taking over the bed (I think this was the high spot of your trip!). So looking forward to having some time with them - we'll be doing all the stuff we did with you guys......
Liz Hi Peter, yes I know it's a shame. Melbourne definately was the best bit for us, not that Oz isn't a beautiful place. One day we'll come back with more money and visit the less commercial places I hope. x
