Hi Guys,
Well today is our first day in Bangkok, and oh boy what a journey we had to get here!!
It took us the grand total of 17 hours from start to finish - well to our little heads hitting the pillow!
We left Siam Reap at 0730, and the day started in with a new experience of going on the back of a motorbike with our rucksac intact as well and im sorry to say but with no helmet! We then took a 1 and a half hour bus ride and eventually had to stop because of all the flooding on the roads, lorries and buses had already got stuck and had to pulled out by a tractor, and then took a boat up the paddy feilds to a point where it was safe to get back on the bus!!! Infact it wasnt even a boat, it was more of a piece of plywood with a few floats on it!! But we survived!!
The bus journey then continued, with a pot holled road from hell, think all our organs are internally bruised from that experience, especially as it was for no less than 2 hrs!!!
We then went onto the pickup truck, with 13 people on the back of it, plus 6 inside, and about a trillion rucksacks tied onto the back of it as well! I had to sit on the roof, and Cheryl had the unfortuate seat of a tyre, so her poor bum took a beating! The dust on the roads was unreal, we were filthy by the time we got off!
The border crossing went smoothly, and then it was onto the 5* luxery bus, with A/C, reclining chairs, foot rests, blankets, the whole shabang!! It was heaven! We even got to see two movies; King Kong and some other rubbish with Van Petrol in (Who's this Auntie Flid??!!)
Once we arrived in Bangkok we checked out a couple of guesthouses, although we took the second one as we were both so tired!
We are going to be staying here for a couple of dayts and then we are heading north to Chiang Mai to do a cookery course, and stay ina nice hotel for a bit of luxery for a few days!!
Thanks for all the messages and emails, Lots of Love Liz and Cheryl x x x
