Yummy grub in Penang
As we would be getting the train north from KL and changing at Penang, before heading into Thailand, it seemed only fitting to stop over and see Mags (who's been living and teaching here for 2 years nearly). We decided to get the train overnight from KL arriving early on a Saturday morning in Penang. Not wanting to wake Mags up at the crack of dawn we headed in search of a café to freshen up at and get some breakfast. It appears most things don't open in Penang until 10 on Saturday so we wandered for a while before plumping for a local Chinatown coffee shop and a mug of very sweet tea () much like the stuff I'd had from a can in Japan.Luckily Mags texted at this point - she was on her way to get us and whisk us back to her lovely flat J
It was so nice to be in a 'home' again and we kicked back with a DVD for a bit before heading down to a beachside café for lunch with Mags and her friends. The afternoon was filled with much speculation about where Sam and I should go next - we could head to Thai islands straight from Penang or cross the border by train and go to the easterly islands. In the end the decision was made to get back on the train the following lunchtime - leaving just enough time for us to enjoy Mags' pool before we all headed out for dinner. It's no wonder Penang is famed for great food and we had definitely focused our sight seeing around this!We shared more chit-chat of home (only to be interrupted by a young drunken RAF-security Aussie who joined us searching for deep and meaningful advice) over a few beers at a beach bar before getting a well needed good nights sleep.
Mags exceeded herself by whipping up bacon and egg sandwiches in the morning and getting us back to train station safe and sound (just!)A whistle-stop tour in Penang and we were back on the train heading for the Thai border.Thank you Mags J

Emily Michael If you are hungry early morning, I would suggest the 24-hour coffee shops available at luxury Penang hotels. Maybe a little expensive but worth it!
