Liz & Chez's Big Adventure
Well...our 9 days of RnR in the "sun" has been fantastic. A great end to our hectic adventure. Although the weather has let us down slightly with the tropical downpours, making beach days a no-no, we have still managed to keep ourselves entertained. We went to the famous Maracaña stadium to see Sao Paulo beat Fluminense (The Rio team...and yes, the team we were supporting!) Nonetheless, it was a fab atmosphere with lots of rowdy people with samba drums and firecrackers and the like. We even got given team coloured balloons to trash around in the air....we truely got involved...great fun! We took the hostel bikes for a wee tour around Copacabana and surrounding areas, dodging the traffic in aid to stay alive. Sugar Loaf Mountain has a famous cable car (dont worry we had never heard of it before either!) but we decided to have one last brief hike up a mountain because a country just would not have been "done" in our eyes without hiking up a mountain or large hill! The views up there were spectacular, and we had a particularly good view of the lower half of the big Jesus.....not any old big Jesus, but the big Daddy of all Jesuses in South America! The clouds were covering his head!!
