First Experience Travelling Indonesia ~ Part 1 Borobudor
We had organised our girly weekend away, we were off to visit Borobudur the largest Buddist temple in the world and Yogyakarta. We had arranged to get an overnight travel car, so we would be dropped off at the temple for opening at 6am.Home from school to pack and have a shower, dropped laundry off and got dinner with Kate, we decided to get it to go as hadn't had chance to check emails and Facebook (sad I know), as we turned the corner to Kate's house the travel car was already sat outside, an hour earlier than we had been told, there was a mad dash to find Chrissy and get everything together, luckily we were the first to be picked up and they were early so they were willing to wait for us.I came home in a rush to grab my bags and tell Chrissy we had to go as the travel car had turned up early, luckily I had pack and was ready to go.We returned back to Kate's and set off on our way, Kate and I ate our dinner in the car as in the mad dash didn't have time before. The journey started fun, with us chatting lots and excited about our weekend away, my first since arriving!! As it got later we grew more and more tired as the three of us had been up since 5.30am that morning and had done a whole day at school too.So we tried to get ourselves comfy (not an easy thing to do) and try get some sleep.Well this didn't happen for me, I had a really uncomfortable chair and because it was a really bumpy journey felt like I was rolling all over the place, so just kind of dozed but definitely NO sleeping. We stopped at about 1.30am for food and Kate and Chrissy had something to eat, my stomach was not feeling up to it, so I just sat.As the girls were eating the driver told us we were only bout 1hr30 away, this was not what we had planned, he asked if we wanted to be dropped anywhere else, but we said no we would just go straight there.
As we arrived it was about 3am, we were quite happy to get out and wait until 6am (opening time), but the driver kept saying it wasn't safe, after much talking and him phoning people, he said that there was a 24hr 'Alphamart' (supermarket ~ like Tesco Express), so he dropped us off there and we went and brought beer and sat outside drinking as the call for pray bellowed across the loud speakers, was a funny and great start to our weekend away. Finally the time came and we walk the little journey to the Temple and entered, we left our bags in lockers and started walking towards the temple. It was so peaceful and looked amazing with the mist in the background as the sun was shining on it, I couldn't believe how quiet it was, it was so lovely. As we got closer the sheer size of it amazed me and as we got closer still the details that had been carved into the stone were remarkable, we just walked round looking at all the carving and admiring all the work that had gone into it.We walked round and climbed the steps to each level, it was so peaceful until we reached the top level because of all the students trying to learn English and there assignment was to talk to English speaking 'Bule' (Indonesian words that just means white people), it makes you feel quite famous as people want to take pictures of you as you walk round or want to talk to you, it can become a little overwhelming. After being surrounded by many Indonesian students, I had to leave, Chrissy had already made her escape and Kate was about to do the same.We descended from the top of the temple and looked round all the stalls selling souvenirs, I brought myself a little Budda statue and then we went for a drink to cool down.
Next part coming soon ~ Keep Reading!!
Lots of Love
