Hello everybody! We have been very slack with our blog over the past week or so, but tonight we have a free night so we have sat down together and we are going to update you on all of our activities!
We arrived in Koh Phi Phi after a two and a half hour ferry journey with no where to stay! We were recommended a place called Blancos by an american girl we met at the previous hostel in Ao Nang, but it was so so hot when we arrived, we couldn't find it so just booked into the first place we could find that had spare beds! We found a dorm called 'Flowers Bungalows'. The dorm had at least 20 beds! There were mosquito nets and each bed had a fan next to it which was really handy. However, the toilets and showers were grim!
The Australian guys that we met in our hostel in Bangkok also arrived in Phi Phi that night! So we met up to grab some predrinks (standard Thai rum/whisky and sprite! cheap cheap!) and went back to their airconditioned hotel room to play what seems like the most universal drinking game: ride the bus! We then went out along the beach and proceeded to watch fire shows, drink buckets of sangsom and dance away at 'slinkys'- the end to all nights on Phi Phi. The next day we laid on the beach. Phi Phi was by far the hottest place we've been-sweating like pigs! You couldn't even cool off in the sea because it was so shallow that the sun heated it up and it was actually really warm!
We decided to move into the recommended 'blancos' for the rest of our stay because we managed to find it almost straight away when we explored further. It was really nice and the owner was pretty chilled, keeping his spliff's in the bamboo roof... haha. The next two nights we also went out (Phi Phi was a bit of a constant party), we met some of the girls from Bangkok and Lissy had her bag taken...oh dearrr. Cathy climbed hungover up to the viewpoint on the island which was a very steep climb and took her aaaages and although the view was lush, she's still not sure it was worth the pain haha.
With all the going out it's not shocking that we were hungover for a boat trip we'd booked. It also happened to be an absolute death trap of a tour! We thought we'd escaped by passing on the cliff jumping option of the tour but we were wrong...
First stop on the tour was snorkelling. It was a lot clearer than in Ao Nang but we still have not been overwhelmed by the varieties of fish about! But Cathy did swim with a turtle which was very cool! The next stop on the tour was to monkey beach which predictably was covered in Monkeys! What we didn't know was that they were basically killer monkeys! One guy turned his back on them and they went for him. He predictably ran and retreated into the water but as he did so our tour guide shouted 'DON'T RUNNN'...bit late. He got a few scratches but luckily no bite because he would have been straight to hospital to get a rabies vaccination! After Monkey beach we went to Maya beach where the film 'the beach' was filmed. VERY pretty but unfortunately it was covered in tourists so you couldn't appreciate it as much! After we'd watched the daredevils do their cliff jumps we headed to this little secluded cove/cave where all the boats met up for a lush BBQ and 'to party' in the evening before the final boats came to take us back home. At this point we were still feeling very ill from the alcohol/sea sickness so weren't really up for it but we did appreciate the copious amounts of chicken provided. The tour guides then informed us that we were about to witness the 'best fire show in Phi Phi'...famous last words. It started off well with our own tour guide turning out to be very competent and stylish with his fire baton, however when another dude took over we immediately did not trust him and moved back. He was what we called a 'dropper'! Just as we uttered these words to eachother the flaming stick of fire flies out of the dropper's hands and straight in between us two!! Lives flashed before eyes!! Cathy ran to the right and Lissy having the middle bit of the stick land on her arm (this is the bit they hold so the only bit not on fire) flicked it off and ran to the left, scraping her arm on a rock. CLOSE ONEEE. That definitely woke us up! Everyone was in shock and the adrenaline was pumping! The guy came over to apologise and it was clear he was very sorry. He gave us a very strong bucket of alcohol as a gesture which, we won't lie, did help. In fact it helped so much that once we got back to our hostel we decided to go out for our last night! We met some cool people out including some german boys whose hats we were trying to steal and a crazy Australian girl called Casey. Because we had no phones on us, to remember people's names to be able to keep in contact, Cathy was writing them down on a stolen bit of paper and pen, however by the morning this had completely disappeared! See yaaa. The next day we hated our lives as we had to run to catch the 11am ferry to our next stop: Ko Lanta. When will we learn! xxx
