After the longest and smelliest bus and train journeys to get to Uyuni, we finally arrived and it was so cold! We got to our hostel which we were staying in for a night, and we had to sleep in ear muffs, hoodies with the hoods up, coats, socks with joggers tucked into them and about 80 other layers, it was that cold! We woke up and literally just didnt want to get out of bed to the cold. Alex had a shower, but it was freezing and then going from there to outside, she nearly died of neumonia! Lissie thought that she´d rather be smelly than colder!
We booked our tour of the Salt Flats with the hostel for one day, so the next day we had an early start - where we had pancakes for breakfast, mmm!! - but it was so worth it! We got a jeep tour with the two annoying guys from Salta (woo hoo!!) and three other Dutsch people including one old man who was so sweet! We stopped off at a few places including a random train cemetry, and then onto the flats, which were amazing! They were such a bright white, that we had to wear glasses, and they just looked like they went on forever. It was definitely one of the best things we´ve seen! We also looked around a hostel made of salt, which was pretty cool but we nearly broke everything by sitting on things! Ooops! On the way back we went to a cacti park, which was pretty cool but because of the altitude, walking up to see everything was such hard work for us! However, considering that everyone was saying such bad things about the altitude, we havent been effected that badly...just out a breath a little.
Before we left, a man from the tour company offered a couple more stops to see flamengos and a volcano for quite cheap, so we decided to get it. However, the man who drove us there didnt actually take us! We did see the volcano slightly whilst having lunch (which was actually pretty decent) but only because the driver had to drop off a few people who were doing 3 day tours at some hostel there. But luckily we got our money back which was good, but sad we didnt get to see the flamengos!
We took some really good photos of most of the day but Lexs memory card went all funny towards the end of the trip and said that it could not be read, and where Lissie hadnt bought her camera yet, it was good that we were with others who took some photos! So we´ll just have to steal theirs..
