Lisa's Big Adventure
On entering the Netherlands, we stopped at a little village called Edam for a cheese and clogs demonstration. We were shown how cheese was made in this part of the country and then shown how a pair of clogs are made by hand, by a very funny dutch man William (I think he'd visited Amsterdam a few too many times and indulged in it's recreational pursuits!). He then gave a very amusing demonstration of his contraption which were a pair of clogs mounted on a pair of skis, which were mounted on wheels. Naturally, he managed to not fall off, but Jed from our tour fell off when he attempted the same thing. Did the tacky tourist poses in clogs and then it was time to head slightly further down the road to take part in a bike ride.
We mounted our bikes and took a 40 minute ride around Edam. It was a very cute, flat (thank goodness!) town and to my relief, I managed to not fall off my bike (something which usually happens! Give me an exercise bike and I'm good, but a normal bike, nope!). We took a ride past little rivers and of course, the regulatory wind mill, of which I just had to take a photo of. We returned our bikes and then it was time to head into Amsterdam for the night.
