Hello from Koh Samet!
We have spent the last 5 days doing absolutely nothing and loved it! Koh Samet is an island about 3 hours from Bangkok where all the rich Thais come to spend their weekends. We are staying in the most expensive room we have had the whole time we've been away (a whopping 7 quid each/night) but it is our last week and we have deserved it!
It was an interesting journey here. The road from Siem Reap to Polpet is ridiculous-buses should not be allowed to drive on it! There were many touts at the border but we ignored them, and made our way to the bus station. We were so excited to be back in our beloved Thailand! Especially me! (Lisa) The staff at the bus station were very friendly and got us sorted and on our way in no time at all! We were on local long distance buses which were air conditioned, very modern and comfortable and played an annoying selection of Thai pop! We were the only Westerners on the bus and it felt good to be travelling with the locals, although the bus journey took A LOT longer than we thought. We got to the port, waited a long while for a boat, and were off.
It was tricky finding a room in the dark, so we found a very cheap place and booked in for one night. Thanks God. It was horrible! Clean, and but very airy as there was a huge gap between the walls and the ceiling, and was consequently full of mozzys! It also comprised of just a matress on he floor, a mosquito net and a fan, and it was hotter than the sun! Next morning we got up early and went exploring to find somewhere else. We quickly realised that it was super expensive here, but managed to get a fairly good deal on a gorgeous air con room :) It was lovely!
There isn't much news because all we have done is lay on the beach sunbathing and swimming in the warm sea. The weather has been gorgeous and the beach is idilic (if not a tad crowded). The water is clear and warm, and at night there are loads of beach BBQs and live music, along with fire shows and fireworks! We had a really good night out to one of the beach side clubs listening to the live band and sampling many of the local cocktails. Lisa even joined in with them on stage! The next day she couldn't get out of bed - I wonder why......
We are off back to Bangkok in the morning for one last stop before home. Going to meet up with Lisa's lovely buddies :D
See you all soon, bye! x x x
