Most people head towards Surfers Paradise for the surf, beach and nightlife but not us we went there for the Theme Parks. The Gold Coast is the only place with Theme Parks in Australia, we went to the Warner Bros Studios - Movie World we couldn't afford to go to Dreamworld which is the more expensive roller coaster theme park. We had pre-booked a hostel, which was a good move as a lot of people were struggling for rooms, and we spent the afternoon chilling out, the hostel was like a house as it was so small and cosy and was a nice hostel to meet people.
We were up nice and early to make sure we were at the bus stop in time to catch our bus at 9am, we thought we were running a bit late and Ben made us run to the bus stop whilst complaining to Lisa that we must have missed the bus and it was ALL her fault for taking too long doing her hair. After 30 minutes waiting at the bus stop we really did think we had missed the bus. Ben rang the company to see what was going on and see what time the next bus was that we could catch. Ben came off the phone laughing and explained that it wasn't 9.30am as we thought but was actually 8.30am, apparently the time changes from new South Wales to Queensland (G'Land doesn't have Daylight Savings) but no one had told us, we had been living in the wrong time for 24 hours! The bus driver, when he arrived, thought it was highly amusing and persisted on mentioning at every chance possible.
The Theme Park was quite small but had plenty to do for the day, the Superman ride, which Ben thought looked very tame, was brilliant and a lot worse than it actually looked. We went on all the different rides including, Batman, Shrek, Lethal weapon and Scooby Doo and we watched the parade through the main street with all the Warner Bros characters such as Tweety, Batman & Robin, Shrek, Sylvester, Austin Powers and The Scooby Doo crew.
On the night we went out in Surfers paradise with a few people we had met in our hostel, to a club called the Bedroom. The club was tiny and some sofas which were shaped to look like beds, We got free entry and a free drink for being the scruffy backpacker, drank too much alcohol and ended up with a hangover the next morning to travel all the way to Noosa.
Noosa is a small town situated in a Sound and is very picturesque with all the canals and rivers running around the town. Our hostel was a little way out of the hostel but located right next to one of the canals. We took two of the hostels free kayaks out on canals and went for a wander, this was a brilliant (although tiring on the arms) way to see the area. We spent a few hours on the kayaks going along the coast where we passed posh houses with their own little beaches, public beaches and hotels. when we got tired we decided to stop at a little beach outside a hotel that was almost empty and chill out for a while. After about an hour we were watching two kids on a two-man kayak getting swept out to sea as they couldn't control the kayak, the current was really strong. Two of the mothers were on the beach wetting themselves, but then realising they had no kayak to get them back, their brothers and sisters, then dads arrived and they all got a bit worried as they couldn't get out to them. So Ben offered to go out and help them. It was fine getting out to them, pretty quick. But then the young boy grabbed Ben's kayak and Ben said "just keep hold of my kayak and I'll paddle to bring you in". After about 5 minutes and only making about 20 metres, the waves were taking us back 3 metres for every metre Ben gained, the young boy just let go (his hand was hurting). Bloody hell! So Ben had to go back for them again, his little sister was screaming at him, calling him a wimp. So this time she grabbed hold of Ben's kayak and held on for dear life. As we were finally coming back to shore, Ben noticed the families had ran in and got their video cameras and were videoing the whole thing whilst laughing hysterically with Lisa. Ben wasn't so amused as his arms were on fire, but saw the funny side when he got a rest. He felt a bit like the Hoff, when everyone was thanking him afterwards. So we headed back to our hostel and relaxed for the rest of the day before having a few drinks on the evening.
The next morning we were heading up to Hervey Bay for Fraser Island!
