Hello all & happy Easter! Think someone should ship me out an easter egg please?
We left Hanoi thursday night for the 16 hour bus ride. It was horrible, the bus had no toilet & the only toilet breaks were when the bus stopped in the middle of nowhere (in the middle of the night) where there were no actual toilets. It was a sleeper bus but I still didn't sleep that well because they're not comfortable & the sound of the traffic is really loud. Then I got rudely awakened in the morning by a Vietnamese guy yelling at me to get off the bus. I refused as we were only in Hue & I'd paid to go to Hoi An which was still another 4 hours away. There was a lot of shouting & he made everyone get out & stand by their luggage so he could see what was mine & then he threw it off the bus so I had no choice but to leave. So i was stuck in Hue for 5 hours & had to wait for another bus. Apparently my ticket wasn't confirmed for the last part of the journey. They tried to get me to pay for a hotel room (anything to get money out of you here). I wasn't having any of it. Luckily I wasn't alone though, Max, a german guy was in the same situation so we tried to make the best of it & went sight seeing but we were tired, angry & not in the mood.
Hoi An is great though. It's very small & old riverside town & yet it has a really happening night scene. There's this bar called "before & now" where they play nothing but brit pop. They had to drag me away from the microphone again, it wasn't even kareoke. Me, Max & Franz (another german guy) went out to dinner in a posh restaurant. I insisted we ate there because apparently Mick Jagger had eaten there. Then we met up with some Irish guys that I'd partied with in Hanoi & we had a bit of a late one. We went to the only club that was still open & it was a salsa club (you'd have liked it mum). I wanted to go to the beach today which is really nice apparently but I'm feeling a bit worse for wear & I have another big bus journey tonight so I'm taking it easy. Apparently there's an amazing beach in Nha Trang so I'll do a bit of sunbathing when I get there. Everyone comes to Hoi An to go shopping. Everything is tailor made here & it's amazing. You look through magazines like Vogue, pick something & in 24hrs they've made it for you. I met several different girls that were over here having the'r wedding dresses made. I couldn't resist & had two tops made for me & they only cost under 10 pounds each. You can also get hand made shoes.
It's a 12 hour night journey to Nha Trang. Hopefully I wont get kicked off this time. I know lots of people that are booked on the same one so I should be ok. I got bitten by mosquitos last night on my feet & it's been driving me crazy - my big toe has swelled up!
Hope everyone has a nice easter & long weekend!
