Well, the Noosa everglades trip was hard work. We didn't realise there would be so much canoeing & it rained almost the whole time. Throw in some leaky tents & a very annoying canoe partner & you get the idea. But on the upside, no one got eaten by any bull sharks. The people we were on the trip with weren't really with it, they didn't bring any booze but we did the right thing & shared ours but this meant we ran out after the first night & so the second one was miserable. It was so hard canoeing in the wind & I thought my little arms would break! I was so glad to be back on dry land!
Next up was Rainbow beach which wasn't much to write home about, the town doesn't even have a pub. Then we travelled on up to Hervey Bay which was our departure point to Fraser Island. Fraser is the worlds largest sand island & has more sand than the Sahara desert. They gave 7 of us the keys to a 4x4, we loaded it with as much alcohol as we could fit & we set off. It was so much fun flying over the sand dunes but the trip wasn't without its hic ups.
Driving the 4x4 was difficult & we got stuck in the sand which was quite funny, we had to dig the wheels out & push it, it was a giggle though. We went to a place called Lake Mckenzie which was stunning. We rounded up some lads & attempted a human pyramid on the shore which was hilarious. The first night was spent in an Aboriganal camp which was funny, there was lots of drinking & face painting & dancing around the camp fire. The second day we went up to a place called Indian Head where you can see sharks (Fraser is a breeding ground for sharks), rays & dolphins. The French people we were with in our group wanted to go to a big rock pool (which was stupid, the tide was coming in). To cut a long story short they got hit off the rocks by a wave & injured themselves. By the time we got back to the jeep the tide had come in & there was no beach left to drive on. We had no choice but to ditch the jeep & set up camp in a horrid place that was not designed for camping. There were dingoes, snake holes & everything. We didn't really have a choice though. I didn't expect the jeep to still be there in the morning & thought we'd be stuck with the bill for it. It was there though, just really sunk in the sand. We were up at sunrise digging it out then some lovely fisherman stopped to help us (they thought it was hilarious & were taking pics!) they managed to tow us out & we were on our way again
A while later disaster struck again when we ran out of petrol so we had to walk & find some. Luckily we were close to a pump. The french didn't do anything - us 4 girls had to sort it out. Then on our way back the back axel broke & front wheels totally broke so we had to call a mechanic who said the car was totalled. Oops! Then another mechanic tried to fix it. We eventually got back in time for the ferry but we only had 2 wheel drive in the front & got told the only thing that was keeping the back wheel on was the sand around it!
We're all having a laugh about it now & I'm just about to go & get a well deserved pizza. We were covered for the damage to the jeep so we don't have to pay anything. It's quite funny though. Pics soon. Have to go my pizza is here! XXXXXxxxxxxxxxx
