Departure Day!
Today is my last day in London. There's a fairly enormous backpack looming in the corner and it feels like the adventure is finally happening! In fact, one member of our little band of therapists is already in Phnom Penh-apparently he is investigating the best restaurants near our Bright Lotus Hostel-a tough job but someone's got to do it!
Last week was spent at the wonderful Great Ormond Street Hospital where we were able to experience working with children with cleft lip and palate conditions. We also learned about feeding for babies and young children with clefts and special needs-all of which will be vital for when we start work. The therapists at GOSH are quite simply outstanding, and we were incredibly privileged to be able to spend time with them and their patients. Let's hope it helps us to do the best job we can whilst out there!
In other exciting (or....terrifying) news we start work next week at the Children's Surgical Centre. The US Military have been in Phnom Penh (PP) for the last week or so, carrying out a "Sight, Sound and Smiles" mission. We'll be joining their team and working with Cleft patients...as of 8am Monday!
Gulp. It's going to be an interesting experience...and the news on how it goes will be posted here first!
