Day ten in the african truck.... ok so its more like a tin oven on some days.... sounds and feels like its going to fall apart on some roads and has a big red button to communicate with the driver when we want to stop for a pee in the bushes.... oh yes thats if you can find a bush in the middle o the friggin desert!!!
14 of us plus the crew are now on our last day in namibia..... so the 14.... quick summary.... 2 scottish bird who are totally sound..... loving the scottish sense of humour.... sarcasim rocks!!! Then we have all those nationalities that you have to make allowances for.... english, american, german, chinese, italian.... need i say more!!!!
My two scottish friends crack me up.... first night kathy thinks someone is being murdered outside her tent.... thats the locals on the beers!!! oh and there are also wild animals outside her tent.... thats a stray dog!!!! Next night she wakes us all up trying to call out for help.... don't think she could find the door of the tent!!!! Third night its toms turn for mishaps when some huge bird with a pretty good aim s***s all over his sleeping bag in the middle of the night.... pure class!!! And so it goes on cause theres not a day goes by without something happening to someone.... my best one has to be the rat thinking it would be good to come and sit next to me when I'm watching the watering hole..... i think that could be the fastest i've moved in a while.... cue girly screaming!!!!
So namibia is pretty amazin country if you like sand and saunas.... its pretty vast with not a lot in between places but sand and more bloody sand!!! Aye an walkin in sand isna the easiest at the best o times but add a bloody steep hill into the equation and i think i'm dyin.... only thing bein i'm a stubourn little git and i'm like i will get to the top even if it does kill ma!!!
So that was the sunrise morning and of course our tour guide thinks its a good idea to give us a champagne brekkie.... ok so it was probably the cheapest fizzie wine she could find but it was good at the time..... then bushman walk.... ok so I was imagining flat bushman walk otherwise I wouldn't have guzzled the fizz.... bad idea when the dunes come into sight again although racing the other truck through the desert track was a pretty good wake up call!!! Anyway i think the scottish let the side down when the bushman showed us how to survuve in the desert.... how to catch lizards and telling us to eat them raw at which point he opens his both and takes a big mouthful...... cue girly screaming from the three scottish birds jumping away covering eyes.... only to turn round to find everyone laughing as he opens his mouth again with live lizard intact...... some folk are awful funny.... NOT!!!
The food is interesting.... they have some white stuff that they insist is local african cuisine and that we will enjoy.... Paul says not sure we have anything like this at home and I say Thank Feck!!!! Its white powder add water and hey presto!!!! You have something that looks a bit like mashed tatties but when you try to shake it off the spoon you realise its maybe got some wallpaper paste in it.... oh yeh then you taste it and nothing.... if I'd ever chewed on cardboard i'd think thats what this is......
Its our last day today in Namibia and we are going to sample some local meats...... mmmmmmm..... next stop Botswana and we get to head out on the Delta for a few days in little dug out wooden canoes and then camp on an ickle island in the middle of the water.... that has lots of wildlife..... I'm thinking this could be interesting and also a little bit smelly given the lack of running water.....
