We had a bit of a late one on Thursday night as we went to an all you can eat/all you can drink BBQ party at our local guide's place. It became a bit o a school disco after a while so I took advantage of the first transfer home at 1am. Glad I did as on Friday we went to the Brazil side of Iguassu Falls. Oh my goodness, you just can't get tired of that view. I could sit and stare all day. It is just magnificent and we got really close to one of the falls and it was just thundering down. They've done it really well on both sides as the barriers and walkways and very unintrusive and really blend in with the environment. I walked right out to the middle and got soaked (again!) but it was well worth it.
We travelled over the border to Argentina later in the afternoon and got on another night bus which dropped us off in the middle of a motorway at about 6am. God only knows how you know where and when to get off if you're on your own as there are no signs, no landmarks and no announcements! Somehow people do and our taxis were waiting for us to take us across the border into Uruguay where we're staying for 4 nights.
I have to admit that I'm very ignorant about Uruguay and hardly know a thing about it but apparently its claim to fame is that it won the first football world cup in 1930! I also just found out there's a place down the road called Fray Bentos. Pies anyone? Tee hee.
Anyway, we're staying tonight in the little border town of Salto. Not much here but there are some natural thermal baths nearby so we hopped on a bus and went for what I was hoping was a relaxing day! I booked a facial and a mud treatment thing. Spent the 1st hour or so soaking in scalding hot pools and was then summoned for my treatments. Ladies (especially Kelkee) - I'm afraid it's not up to your standards! We are so spoilt in Asia with our softly piped music, candlelight, whispering, calming therapists and mounds of towels. Nope, not in Uruguay! I went to a dodgy room with fluorescent lighting and rock music on the radio blasting out. Had to strip down to my pants and lie in a bed next to some other random soul from another tour group who had signed up for the same thing! We had no towels or any modesty! I went to the shower which was grotty and had to use my damp towel to get dried (the one I had been using in the pools earlier on!). Anyway, next thing I hear a boy's voice and thank goodness, the therapist (if I can call her that) covered us up before he came in for his treatment (all in the same room by the way - having flashbacks to Sophie and I in Cebu!!!). My facial wasn't much better. She made me sit in a chair (still naked waist up!) and then slapped some cream on, plucked out some blackheads(well, I assume that's what she was doing unless she was voluntarily hurting me!) and then zapped me with an electric current. I then had to wash my own mask off. The cheek of it! My skin feels great but the day was not the relaxing heaven I was looking forward to!
Up early tomorrow and heading to the capital, Montevideo.
