After abandoning Cate to a 24+ hour day of flying home, I took off for an extended layover in Dubai.

Dubai is a fascinating city because it's an interesting blend of old and new. The scale of infastructure being built is staggering - which is the Dubai that is most frequently featured on the news. And it definitely lives up to the reputation. The quantity of hotels, malls, palaces, etc. is incredible. But you can just as easily turn a corner and stumble into an open-air souk and be reminded of Dubai's history, and where it came from.
