Friday Day Eight . Helena. A good nights sleep was had by all. Early breakfast at 8am. This consisted of Fluffy American pancakes, scrambled egg, a sausage, fruit and maple syrup. Very filling. The owner of the B and B was very chatty and wanted to know about UK and where we lived. Also some politics. She is democratic and anti Trump. Wanted to know how we cared for people with mental illness and the homeless. the weather was much cooler today. Layers were needed. Several of them.
We left the B and B and walked towards the capital state building. This was about ten blocks away. I was amazed it was a beautiful building.
We were allowed to walk around at will and no security checks. There was an inauguration going on for the probation service. Stayed and listened to the USA National anthem being sung. It was very moving. Walked around the various parts of the building and saw the senate chambers and Courts. Helena is the state capital of Montana. The furnishings and decor were very sumptuous and grand. Fabulous.
Went into the museum which is close and saw some exhibits regarding the Blackfeet Indicand. decided to take the tour train around Helena. this was great and showed us the places we missed last night. The shop keepers came out and waved to us.... Nit like the Torquay one!!!
The tour lasted almost two hours. after the tour walked to Reeders Alley which apwas recommended but not much there. A bit peckish so went into a nearby bakery Park Avenue Bakery. I had a strombolo pasty and Martin a pizza slice. Very tasty. Went back into the brewery next door with some biscuits. Talked to a guy who wife had a baby six days earlier and was escaping.
Moving onwards around the main town. Everywhere we went people wanted to chat, all sorts of subjects . Great but made slow progress down the high street. Coin shops, clothes and gift shops, antiques and consignment stores. A lovely mix. Walked back to the B and B for a rest. In the evening drove to the Brewhouse and Grill and had a steak.with veg... unheard of. There was a small wait. Decided after to visit the Lewis and Clark brewery on the industrial estate outside Helena. Lovely amount of local beers on top. On the way quite dark. Martin dais Truro let I said no as would be driving on the railway line. No barriers or signs anywhere.... made the trip back ok and to sleep after another busy but lovely day.
