Day 14 Butte and Toad Hall Manor Thursday 20th September.
Had a hearty breakfast all hand made by Glenn, the host. He sat at the table. We said about a trolley ride and he booked it for us. Conversations around the table was quite political but friendly. Drove into butte early as wanted to look around before the trolley trip. We were in the historic area. Date 1850’s onwards. The buildings tend to be square with lots of windows. We parked easily and set off. Not too impressed. The whole area appeared seedy and run down. Closed shops, dodgy people hanging around. Found a few shops to look in but were pleased when midday came and we got on the trolley. Weather was fine and blue skies. Got the history of butte which was a gold rush town which also found copper. A large corporation called anaconda bought all the land. There was a large influx of people from all over the world. Conditions were bad but the corporations made loads of money. Butte is a boom/ bust town which explains the contrasting buildings. Environmental problems also arise which are still being dealt with today.
An interesting ride and we approached butte differently when we were dropped off. Had lunch at the bank coffee house and a lovely cinnamon bun.
Drove back to find jo Ann’s as butte has a lot of strip malls outside the town. Martin went to a Starbucks while I shopped. It was huge.
Went to the metal banks sports bar for dinner. We ate in an original huge fancy vault.
Ordered a sharing platter which consisted of all fried items and half a carrot!it was tasty but too much fried stuff.
Could not w
Eat anymore. Stopped at Butte brewing company for a drink. Back to Toad Hall and went straight to bedroom as all the day caught up with us.
